Grace V. Neff

Grace Virginia Barnes Neff, 80, of Oakland Township, passed away Thursday afternoon, Jan. 21, 2016, surrounded by her family at VNA Hospice. She was born May 27, 1935, in Fairview Township, a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Barnes. Grace was a 1953 graduate of Fairview Township-Karns City High School, where she played the trumpet in the band. Grace became a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, when she married the love of her life, Michael N. Neff, on Nov. 6, 1954. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Christian Mothers and a past member of Chicora Women of the Moose. She worked at Bartoli's Dry Cleaning, McGinley Nursing Home and Bresnehan's Custard Stand. Grace was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as dancing with her husband on Saturday nights. She is survived by her five children, Michael C. and Susan Neff, of Chicora, Rosemary and Charles Whitmire, of Butler, James and Nadine Neff, of Chicora, Martha and Brian Birch, of Butler, and Dr. Cynthia Grace Neff and her husband, Thomas Swisher, of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Michael R. and Sara Neff, of Virginia, Matthew Neff, of Chicora, Katherine Neff, of Canonsburg, Ashley and Robert Green, of Butler, Nicholas and Denise Neff, of Chicora, Vanessa and Victoria Birch, of Butler; four great-grandchildren, Zoe Grace Green, of Butler, Logan M. Neff, of Virginia, and Gabriel and Xavier Neff, of Chicora; one brother, James W.H. and Renie Barnes, of Petrolia; and her niece and nephew. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Darrell I. Barnes; and sister-in-law, Leona Barnes.
Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, corner of Main and E. Slippery Rock streets, Downtown Chicora. Mass of Christian Burial at noon Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora, with Father Rick Thompson officiating. Interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Chicora Road, Chicora.
