Katherine L. (Vandersyde) Scherder

Katherine L. Scherder, 78, of Chicora, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021 in New Haven Court, Butler, PA following a brief illness. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA. Thursday, August 6, 1942 the daughter of the late George Vandersyde and the late Katherine M. Fleischer Vandersyde.

She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Chicora, PA, and the Christian Mothers of the church. For years she worked in the Social Service field with PARC, Family Living Program in Butler, PA. She was a bookkeeper for Parker Appliance for a number of years.

Kathy always had a remarkable outlook on life and enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, and foster parenting, but most of all, she delighted in entertaining, teaching, and just hanging out with her grandchildren.

She married Charles A. Scherder June 4, 1960 and he died November 16, 2013.

She is survived by 4 daughters: Katherine L. and Jeffery Groves of Chicora, PA; Caroline and Dennis Land of Kerrville, TX; Rose M. and George Pawluk of Butler, PA.; Mary Lou Scherder of Cranberry Township. 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. 2 sisters-in-law: Wanda and Mary Vandersyde of Butler, PA.

Besides her parents and loving husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers: John and George Vandersyde.

Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 Main and E. Slippery Rock Streets, downtown Chicora, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 in Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Chicora, PA with Father Louis Pascazi officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora, PA 16025
