Harry "Bill" Verner Jr., 82, of Hornertown, Petrolia, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 at his home following an illness.
Born July 17, 1927, in East Brady, he was the son of the late Harry L. Verner Sr., and the late Lillian Innes Verner.
Mr. Verner worked for Koppers Co., now Indspec, in Petrolia for 38 years, where he was a foreman. He retired in December 1978.
He was a Presbyterian.
He was a school bus driver for the Karns City School District for 10 years.
In the early 1960s he was the fire chief for East Brady Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a trumpet player with his brother Wilders G. Verner's Dance Band for years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia A. McElhaney Verner; a daughter, Samantha Verner Nalette of Williston, Vt.; three sons, Troy Verner of Pittsburgh, Harry L. Verner III of East Brady and Todd Verner of Butler; and 10 grandchildren.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he is preceded in death by two brothers, John and Wilders Verner; and two sisters, Florence McIlhatten and Valerie Verner.
VERNER - Friends of Harry "Bill" Verner Jr., who died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Steighner Funeral Home, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Trent Kirkland, pastor of Zion Church, Clarion, officiating.
Inurnment of cremains will be later at the convenience of his family in St. Eusebius Cemetery, East Brady.
