Virginia Jean (Hockenberry) Allen passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018 in the VNA Inpatient Hospice Care Center.  Born Friday, July 16, 1943 to Ruben C. Hockenberry and Mary Elizabeth (Keiffer) Hockenberry.

Virginia especially liked studying the Bible with Helen Morris from the Chicora Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. She enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening, crocheting, sewing, baking new recipes, arts and crafts. She, also, loved bird watching and was an avid collector of anything hummingbirds, working puzzles with her son, Chip, and taking day trips to the Amish Country, playing cards and various games with the family.

She is survived by 4 children: Kathy Allen of Butler, Edward (Chip) of Butler, Steven Allen and companion Cherie Lambing of Butler, Susan D. Hicks and husband William Hicks of Chicora.  Grandchildren: Shane Allen and his companion, Sandy Harding of Chicora; Thomas Dambach of Butler, Brett Blaskowitz of Ellwood City, Justin, Jessie, Heather and companion Dustin Birckbichler, and Amanda Allen of Butler; 3 Step-grandchildren: Samantha, Jolene and Colt Hicks of Chicora, and a number of nieces and nephews. Sisters: Mary Craig of Chicora, Ruth Bell of Butler, Linda Berry of Chicora.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Allen who died February 8, 2015 and a son, James R. Allen; Brothers: Robert Hockenberry, Charles Hockenberry, Leonard Hockenberry. Sisters: Avanel Carson, Shirley Carson.

A special thanks to the VNA Visiting Nurses and aids and the Inpatient Home at Benbrook Road and a very special thank you to our Aunt Ruth for all your loving care of mom.

Friends will be received Tuesday, 6-9 P.M. September, 4, 2018 at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main Streets, Chicora, Pennsylvania.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 10 A.M. at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME with interment following at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler, Pennsylvania
