Robert A. 'Briz' Brizendine
Robert A. "Briz" Brizendine, 71, of Chicora passed away Sunday in the presence of his loved ones at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1941, and was the son of the late Robert and Billie Brizendine.
Briz proudly served in the U.S. Navy, spending much of his enlistment on the U.S.S. Preble.
He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. Over the years, he was a member of the Happy Hunters Club, the Evans City Sportsman Club, the Pennsylvania Snowseekers, the American Legion Post 642 in Chicora as well as the Seneca Valley Quarterback Club. Briz was proud to say that he was instrumental in installing the lights on the Seneca High School football field for the team's first season of Friday night football. Other hobbies included stock car racing and skeet shooting.
Briz and his wife, Judy, owned and operated Ziegler's Exxon Station in Zelienople for many years, where he enjoyed meeting and serving the residents. After he sold the Exxon business, he worked for several years at Traco, Inc. in Cranberry Township.
Briz is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Ziegler Brizendine; daughters Jody (Jim) Getz of Harrisville and Wendy Frederick of Evans City; three sisters, Barb (Tom) Brizendine of Zelienople, Susan (Bob) Altemus of Harmony, and Diane (Matt) Sweet of Aurora, Colo.; his favorite grandson, Nicholas Getz of Harrisville; and several nieces and nephews.
BRIZENDINE - Friends and relatives of Robert A. "Briz" Brizendine, who passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, will be received at the Steighner Funeral Home, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The services and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 642 in Chicora, 110 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, PA 16025.
