Obituary
Joseph A. Macurak, 81, of Chicora died at 6:18 a.m. Thursday in the Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.
Born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 13, 1932, he was the son of John W. Macurak and Theresa Heinzel Macurak.
He worked for more than 30 years at J&L Steel, South Side of Pittsburgh.
He was president of the Karns City Quarterback Club in the 1970s.
He was a member of the Republican Committee. He enjoyed football, farming and interacting with his family. He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gajewski Macurak, who he married May 2, 1953 at St. George Catholic Church in Allentown, Pittsburgh; his daughters, Jeannette Macurak of Erie and Beverly and Jim Filges of Chicora; his sons, Joseph J. and Karen Macurak of Karns City, Jim and Debbie Macurak of Karns City, Jerome "Jerry" and Diane Macurak of Bruin and John and Ellen Macurak of Sligo; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and sister, John W. Macurak and Theresa Harmison.
MACURAK - Friends of Joseph A. Macurak, who died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, corner of Main and East Slippery Rock streets, Chicora.
The Rev. Joseph Pudicherry will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora. Burial will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, Drawer F, Chicora, PA 16025, or to the Karns City Quarterback Club, Attn: Jim Filges, 333 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, PA 16025.
