Obituary
Joseph W. Neff Sr., 82, of Chicora passed away at 9:25 a.m. Monday in Butler Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Oakland Township, Chicora, on Jan. 15, 1932, he was the son of the late Herman W. and Mary Agnes Angert Neff.
He worked for Pullman Standard in Butler for 13 years until the plant closed. He also drilled gas wells for 10 years and painted cars at the Ford Garage in Butler for 18 years.
Joe was a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora. He was a member of the Pro-Life Federation Inc. of Harrisburg.
He was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed restoring antique cars. He was very supportive of the Special Olympics and enjoyed the outdoors, especially the mountains where he married Diana G. Blackmer Neff on June 21, 2008. She preceded him in death Feb. 18, 2014.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Theresa Troutman of Hilliards; his daughters, Betty (David) Shirey of Slippery Rock and Joanne Neff of Butler; his sons, Joseph (Penny) Neff Jr. of Petrolia, Ralph (Brenda) Neff of Chicora, Albert (Sherri) Neff of Sarver, Eugene Neff of Chicora, and Russell (Janice) Neff of Hilliards; his 20 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Catherine (Philip) Graham of Greenburg; his brothers, Herman (Bridget) Neff of Chicora, Benjamin Neff of Chicora, Patrick and Jean Neff of Chicora, Gerard 'Jerry' (Donna) Neff of Chicora, and Raymond Neff of Saxonburg, and his sisters-in law, Marian Neff of Chicora, and Betty Neff of Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian Joseph Neff, and his brothers, James Neff, Andrew Neff, Thomas Neff and Wendelin Neff.
Neff- The friends of Joseph W. Neff Sr., who passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, will be received at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 864 Chicora Road, North Oakland, Chicora, by the Rev. Steve Neff. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery, North Oakland, Chicora.
