Obituary
Joan Collier Hemphill, 87, of Chicora died peacefully at 2:50 a.m. Sunday at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
She worked at the Spade Shirt factory in Butler for several years.
She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, and the Altar Rosary Society of the church.
She was born in Chicora, on Jan. 4, 1927, the daughter of Ross Collier and Mae Iman Collier.
She married Richard Hemphill Sr. on July 20, 1946, and he passed away Aug. 16, 2009.
Surviving are her daughter, Janie and Tom Turk of Chicora; her sons, Richard Jr. and Linda Hemphill of Chicora and Denny and Cathy Hemphill of Butler; and her eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Betty Hemphill of Chicora; her sister-in-law, Ellen Collier of Chicora, and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her two brothers, William Collier and Robert Collier
HEMPHILL - At the request of Joan Collier Hemphill, who died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, there was no public visitation.
The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Harry Bielewicz today at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Burial is in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to steighner funeral home, Chicora.
In lieu flowers, the family suggest donations be made to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
