Hildegarde Anna Mellish, age 98 of Chicora, Pennsylvania passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.  She was born April 2, 1922 in Unity PA, the daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Boyle) Smitmans. She married William John Mellish, Sr, April 28, 1943, who died November 1, 2006.

She is preceded in death by brothers: Herman, Carl, Hagen, Roland (Rody); and sisters: Grace Chaffin, Jean Swartzlander, and sister-in-law, Martha (Heller) Smitmans.

Hilda was known for her beautiful vegetable garden that produced large delicious tomatoes enjoyed by many. Her other gift was her tasty pies, baked with lots of love for family and friends.

She is survived by her children Nancy (Philip) Williams, Francis Theodore (Nancy) Mellish, William-Jack (Diane) Mellish, and Roland (Amy) Mellish. 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed.

The family wishes to thank Kathy, Bernie, Sherri, Cathy, Barb and the staff members of Lutheran Senior Life VNA Hospice for the loving and tender care given to our mother.

Following Covid-19 guidelines, friends and family will be received on Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora, PA with private services immediately following.  Hilda will be laid to rest, next to her husband in Mount Pleasant Cemetery with private services officiated by Reverend Joseph Boomhower. Guests are reminded to wear face coverings and to social distance. Let's get this pandemic stopped!

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, PA or to Lutheran Senior Life VNA Hospice, Butler, PA.
