Obituary
H. Sam Cunningham, 68, of Chicora passed away Saturday in the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a short illness.
He was retired after 27 years from Ervin Industries in East Butler.
He was very active in the Chicora Fire Department, where he was presently serving on the board of directors and was captain of the fire police. He served faithfully on the Chicora Borough Council from August 2006 until the present and was also affiliated with the Steighner Funeral Home.
He was born on May 22, 1946, to the late Samuel Austin Cunningham and Mabel Grace Harbison Cunningham.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Moore Cunningham, whom he married on Nov. 27, 1965; his daughters, Carissa (Steve) Garing of Chicora, Michele (Gary) Smith of Augusta, Ga., and Kelly (Robert) Hartel of Petrolia; his grandchildren, Matthew Garing, Jennifer Garing, Kurtiss Smith, Dylan Smith, Garret Smith, and Timothy Hartel, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl Cunningham, Dorothy Kerr, Dolores Patterson, and Gloria Nini, and his brothers, Don Cunningham and Everett Cunningham.
Cunningham - The friends of H. Sam Cunningham, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to memorial services at 9 p.m. today at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, at the corner of Main and East Slippery Rock streets, Chicora.
Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 310 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, with the Rev. Mark Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, 266 Zion Church Road, Chicora.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Chicora Fire Department, P.O. Box F, Chicora, PA 16025.
