Obituary
Grace G. Chaffin, 86, of Donegal Township, Chicora, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at her home following an illness.
She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
She worked as a nurse anesthetist at Butler Memorial Hospital for 40 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora.
She was born in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, on Sept. 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Herman Smitmans and Anna Boyle Smitmans.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Chaffin Steele of Chicora; her grandson, Alexander Steele of Chicora; and her sisters, Hildagarde Mellish of Chicora and Jean Swartzlander of Fenelton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers.
Chaffin - The friends of Grace G. Chaffin, who passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Steighner Funeral Home, at the corner of Main and East Slippery Rock streets, Chicora.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, Route 268 South, Chicora.
