Obituary


George G. "Chesty" John, 78, of Chicora died at 3 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a short illness.

Chesty was a graduate of Karns City High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served on the island of Okinawa during the late 1950s. He worked 27 years at Pullman Standard until it's closing in 1982, then worked at Castle Rubber for eight years. He was also a Donegal Township supervisor, a truck driver and school bus driver over the course of his work life.

He enjoyed mowing the fields on his farm, playing cards, listening to classical music, singing and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Jordan.

Born in Pittsburgh on April 14, 1935 the son of:
Father: Anthony Bismark
Mamie Zaiden John

He spent most of his young adult life living in Rattigan PA with
Grandfather: Joseph John
Grandmother: Agnes John

He is survived by:

Wife: Mary L. Graham
Married: July 2, 1960
They were inseparable for the past 53 years.

Sons: David and his wife Sally John --- Hanover, MD
Jarrod and his wife Kimberly John --- Chicora

Granddaughter: Jordan A. John --- Chicora

Aunt Hinid Zaiden --- Pittsburgh, PA

He is also survived by seven siblings:
Sisters: Agnes, Mary Lou, Irene
Brothers: Anthony, Engene, Mark, and Gregory.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters Joyce and Jean.

He was a member of Mater Delorosa Church in Chicora.

Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Steightner Funeral Home in downtown, Chicora.

A celebration of his life with a mass of Christian burial will be offered at:
10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013

Reverend Joseph Pudichery, Pastor, officiating.

At the request of 'Chesty',  guests and family will meet at the Church.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Sugar Creek, PA.
Full Military Honors will be conducted by:
Chicora VFW, Chicora and Brady's Bend American Legions.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the:
