Alvin E. "Bugs" Titley, 81, of Butler, formerly of Chicora, passed away unexpectedly Friday at his home.
He was born on July 3, 1933, at Buena Vista, Chicora, to the late Paul M. Titley and Catherine Ellenberger Titley.
He worked as a crane operator for Cooper Bessemer of Grove City for 39 years until his retirement in 1995.
He was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler and a dedicated 20-year Boy Scout leader for Troop 5 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler. He received the George Meany Award, which is organized Labor's highest honor to youth through the program of the Boy Scouts of America.
He also coached the Center Township Youth Little League Baseball Team for 20 years. He was a founding member of the Butler Soccer Goal Getters. In 1988, he was awarded the Penn State "12th Man Award" by Penn State Soccer in recognition to his faithful attendance and support of the Penn State Soccer team. One of his favorite pastimes was helping his granddaughters take care of the 4-H rabbits, especially his favorite bunny, Will. He always told everyone his favorite job was baby-sitting his grandson, Brandon, and taking rides together in his 1931 Model A Roadster. He enjoyed being a member of the Goosetown Gang.
Alvin proudly protected his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 117 of Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Purucker Titley, who he married on July 8, 1963; his daughter, Barbara (Tim) Wallace of Chicora; his sons, David (Jennifer) Titley of Karns City and Eric Titley of Chicora; his grandchildren, Taylor, Jared and Hannah Titley, Elizabeth Williamson, and Brandon Wallace; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul "Tib" Titley; his sister, Marlene Rottman; and his niece, Tammie Rottman.
Titley - The friends of Alvin E. "Bugs" Titley, who passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, downtown Chicora.
Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, officiated by Joel Benson, pastor. Interment with full military honors provided by Chicora VFW, Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legions, and the 99th Readiness Command, will be in Hemphill Cemetery in Chicora.
The family requests that you join them for a luncheon at the church immediately following interment.
