James J. Hilderbrand, 82, of Fenelton died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at Chicora Medical Center after a long illness with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Fenelton, Dec. 27, 1922, he was the son of Philip and Frances Waltman Hilderbrand.
He worked at the Fretz Moon Pipe & Tube Co. for nine years until the plant the closed in 1963. He then worked at T.W. Phillips Gas & Oil Co. for 30 years and retired in 1986 because of his illness.
Mr. Hilderbrand was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of Fenelton. He also belonged to the Happy Hunters Sportmen's Club of Fenelton, the East Butler Fireman's Club and the Chicora Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn L. Miller Hilderbrand, whom he married Sept. 19, 1944; a daughter, Diane Dudash and her husband, Michael Dudash, of Hallandale, Fla.; a son, David Hilderbrand and his wife, Shirley Zilian Hilderbrand, of Fenelton; five grandchildren, Natalie Muller and her husband, Robert Muller, of Atlanta, Ga., Doug Ray and his wife, Stacey Ray, of Pleasantville, N.Y., Bradley Ray and his wife, Katie Ray, of Gig Harbor, Wash., David Hilderbrand of Pittsburgh and Brian Hilderbrand of Fenelton; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ashley Muller and Harrison, Noah, Jared and William Ray. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
As the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
HILDERBRAND - Friends of James J. Hilderbrand, who died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Coylesville, with the Rev. Lou Pascazi, officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
