Agnes Elaine (Garnick) Hilderbrand

Agnes Elaine Hilderbrand age 93 of Chicora, PA passed away at 3:15 a.m. Friday July 14, 2017 in the comfort of her own home. She was born in Penn Township January 31, 1924 the daughter of Joseph and Mary Garnick.

Agnes attended the Bulford 1-room school in Penn Township; and because there were no busses and due to the long walk to school she was unable to complete high school. In 1944 she received a business degree from Robert Morris College. Agnes held several positions, including Executive Secretary at Kopper Corperation, worked at Magnetics, and in addition, she worked as a special social worker for the county of Butler helping children from broken homes by collecting alimony and child support.

On June 6, 1953 Agnes married Charles S. Hilderbrand in Saint Paul Catholic Church in Butler. She was a master gardener and had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens that she learned from her mother and through her own years of experience.

Agnes is survived by her husband Charles S. Hilderbrand and 2 sons: Timothy (Mary Ann) Hilderbrand, Jay Hilderbrand. Her daughter Shirley Rugaber and her husband David, 4 grandchildren: Theresa Hilderbrand, Charles Hilderbrand, Amy Rugaber, and Michael Rugaber all from Chicora and Butler. She is, also, survived by a sister Frances Sienicki from Moon Township and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Charles William Hilderbrand III, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Friends will be received at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery and Main Streets, Downtown Chicora, PA.        Visitation will be Monday July 17 at 9:30 to 11:15 a.m.

 Funeral Mass will follow at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Matt McClain officiating.. Amy Rugeber will sing a solo of Amazing Grace.. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora, PA.
